1. Who we are and when these terms apply
These Terms and Conditions apply to the private hire of Daisy, our 2018 Volkswagen T6 Highline DSG campervan. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean the owner or operator identified in your booking confirmation. "You" and "the hirer" mean the lead hirer, and include each approved driver where the context requires.
Your booking confirmation, these terms, any agreed extras, the rental agreement, the vehicle condition report and the handover record together form the hire agreement. If there is an inconsistency, the booking confirmation will take priority for the specific commercial details of your booking, followed by any mandatory insurer requirements and then these terms.
These terms are intended for direct bookings. If you book through GoCampers, Goboony or another third-party platform, that platform's terms and any platform-arranged insurance or payment rules also apply and will take priority where they conflict with these terms.
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts any consumer right or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
2. Booking and payment
A booking is provisional until we accept it in writing and receive the required booking deposit or full payment. Availability shown before acceptance is not a guarantee.
A non-refundable booking deposit equal to 25% of the total hire charge is payable when booking. The remaining balance is due no later than 28 days before collection.
If you book within 28 days of collection, the full hire charge is payable when booking.
Payments must be made using a method we accept and must clear by the stated due date. You are responsible for any bank or payment-provider charges.
If the balance or required documents are not received on time, we may treat the booking as cancelled by you after giving you a reasonable opportunity to put the matter right. The cancellation charges in section 22 will then apply.
The person making the booking confirms that they are authorised to provide the details of all drivers and passengers and to accept these terms on behalf of the booking party.
3. Minimum hire period and prices
The minimum hire period is 3 nights, except during peak periods when a 5-night minimum applies.
Peak dates and the total price will be shown before the booking is confirmed.
Prices include only the items and allowances stated in the booking confirmation. Campsite fees, fuel, travel costs, tolls, fines, optional extras and personal travel insurance are not included unless expressly stated.
Any promotional offer is subject to its stated conditions and cannot be applied retrospectively unless we agree otherwise.
4. Collection and return
Collection is from 3:00pm on the first day and Daisy must be returned by 10:00am on the final day, unless we agree different times in writing.
Collection and return are in Harlow, Essex, at the address confirmed before the hire.
Please allow enough time at collection for identity and vehicle checks, signing the rental agreement, a condition report and a demonstration of the vehicle and equipment.
Late collection does not extend the agreed return time and does not entitle you to a refund for unused time.
Only we may agree an extension. Keeping Daisy beyond the agreed hire period without permission may invalidate insurance and may be reported to the police.
A pre-agreed late return of up to 4:00pm may be available for £70, subject to availability. An unauthorised late return is charged at £35 per hour or part hour, with a minimum charge of £70, plus any reasonable additional loss or cost caused, such as compensation or alternative arrangements for the next hirer.
5. Driver eligibility and documentation
Only a driver named on the rental agreement and accepted by the relevant insurer may drive Daisy. Every proposed driver must:
be aged between 25 and 75 inclusive;
have held a full driving licence valid for the class of vehicle for at least 24 months;
have no more than two 3-point endorsements for minor offences, subject always to insurer approval;
have no more than one fault or outstanding insurance claim in the previous 3 years;
accurately disclose all convictions, endorsements, bans, medical restrictions, accidents, claims and other facts requested by us or the insurer; and
meet any additional condition reasonably imposed by the insurer.
For each UK licence holder we require the photocard driving licence, a DVLA check code and two acceptable proofs of address. Proofs of address must normally be dated within 90 days of collection and show the same address as the licence. Acceptable documents may include a council tax statement, utility or fixed telecoms bill, bank or credit-card statement, or mortgage statement.
For a non-UK licence holder we may also require a passport, an official driving record or licence history, and any further evidence required by the insurer. Originals must be available at collection if requested. We may retain secure copies where reasonably required for insurance, legal or fraud-prevention purposes.
If a driver does not meet the requirements or satisfactory documents are not supplied by collection, that person cannot drive. If no approved driver remains, Daisy will not be released and this will be treated as a cancellation by you unless the failure was caused by us.
6. Insurance and security deposit
Comprehensive self-drive hire insurance is provided only for approved drivers, for the agreed hire period and territory, and subject to all policy terms, exclusions and excesses. The insurance certificate or summary is available on request. It does not replace personal travel insurance or cover your belongings.
A security deposit of £1,200 is payable before collection unless the booking confirmation or insurer states another amount. The security deposit is not a limit on your liability where insurance does not respond, where a policy exclusion applies, or where your liability lawfully exceeds that amount.
We may apply the security deposit towards sums properly due under the agreement, including the insurance excess, uninsured damage, missing items, cleaning, fuel, excess mileage, late return, recovery, tolls, fines and reasonable administration costs. We will provide a reasonable explanation and supporting information for a deduction.
Any balance will normally be returned within 7 working days after return and completion of our checks. If a cost cannot yet be confirmed—for example, a repair estimate, insurer decision or later-arriving road charge—we may retain a reasonable amount while it is assessed. We will tell you the reason and return any unused balance promptly once the amount is resolved.
7. Vehicle condition and handover
We will provide Daisy in a roadworthy condition, with the legally required certificates and the equipment recorded at handover.
You and we will inspect the vehicle and record visible damage, fuel level, mileage and supplied equipment where practicable. Photographs or video may form part of that record.
You must check that the record is accurate before leaving and report any overlooked issue as soon as reasonably possible.
You must familiarise yourself with the vehicle dimensions, controls and safety equipment and follow the demonstration and written instructions.
Fair wear and tear is not charged. Damage, loss or abnormal deterioration during your responsibility may be charged in accordance with these terms.
8. Mileage
The hire includes 100 miles for each night booked. For example, a 3-night hire includes 300 miles. Unused mileage is not refundable or transferable. Mileage above the total allowance is charged at £0.45 per mile, calculated from the recorded collection and return odometer readings.
You must not disconnect, alter or interfere with the odometer or other vehicle monitoring or safety systems.
9. Passengers, seat belts and child seats
The number of people travelling must not exceed Daisy's legal belted seating capacity or the number accepted in the booking. Daisy sleeps a maximum of 4 people unless we confirm otherwise.
Every passenger must use the correct seat and seat belt while the vehicle is moving. Passengers must not travel in the pop-top, on beds or in any unbelted position.
You are responsible for providing, fitting and using a suitable legally compliant child seat unless we expressly agree to supply one. You must check compatibility with Daisy before travel.
You must ensure children and vulnerable passengers are supervised and that doors, windows, the roof and equipment are secured appropriately.
10. Permitted use and prohibited activities
Daisy may be used only for lawful private leisure travel by approved drivers within the agreed territory. You must not:
allow an unauthorised person to drive or sub-hire, lend or sell any interest in the vehicle;
drive while affected by alcohol, illegal drugs, fatigue, or medication or a medical condition that makes driving unsafe or unlawful;
use Daisy for racing, rallies, speed testing, driver training, towing, pushing another vehicle, carrying goods or passengers for payment, courier work or any trade use;
overload the vehicle, exceed axle or weight limits, or carry dangerous, illegal or inadequately secured goods;
drive on beaches, flooded roads, unsurfaced tracks or terrain unsuitable for a two-wheel-drive road vehicle, except for reasonable access to a recognised campsite where safe;
take Daisy to a festival, motorsport event, winter-sports area, ski resort or other higher-risk location without our written approval;
take Daisy outside the agreed territory or onto any ferry or train crossing not disclosed to us; or
use Daisy in breach of road traffic law, insurance requirements or the manufacturer's guidance.
11. European travel
Travel outside mainland Great Britain is allowed only with our prior written approval. Our European Travel Package costs £100 for a trip of up to 14 nights and includes the agreed insurance extension, European breakdown cover, a VE103 vehicle-on-hire certificate and administration. Longer trips or different territories may incur an additional charge or be refused by the insurer.
You are responsible for passports, visas, driving permits, travel insurance, health documents, ferry or tunnel bookings, tolls, vignettes, low-emission registrations, country-specific safety equipment and compliance with all local laws. You must give us accurate itinerary information in enough time to arrange the documents. Daisy must not be taken to any excluded or sanctioned country.
12. Dogs and other animals
Up to 2 well-behaved dogs may travel only with our prior agreement. A £50 dog supplement applies per booking.
No other animal may be carried unless we agree in writing, except an assistance dog where the law requires access. Please tell us in advance so that practical arrangements can be made.
Dogs must not be left unattended in Daisy. They must be safely restrained while travelling and kept under control at all times.
Please bring the dog's own bedding or blankets and protect seats and furnishings.
You are responsible for animal-related damage, infestation, excessive hair, staining or odour and for the reasonable cost of cleaning or repair beyond the included supplement.
13. Smoking, vaping and fire safety
Smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere inside Daisy or beneath an open awning. Candles, incense and other open flames are prohibited. Cooking appliances must be used only as demonstrated, with adequate ventilation, and must never be used for heating.
You must not tamper with smoke, carbon-monoxide or gas safety equipment. Any alarm, suspected gas leak or fire-safety concern must be treated seriously: turn off appliances where safe, leave the vehicle, call the emergency services if needed and contact us.
14. Pop-top roof, awning and camping equipment
Operate the pop-top, bed, swivel seats, blinds, awning and other equipment only as demonstrated and never force a mechanism.
The pop-top and awning must be lowered, secured and dry where reasonably possible before driving. They must not be used in high winds, storms or other unsafe conditions.
Before raising the pop-top, release the securing straps and open a door or window as demonstrated. Before lowering it, check the sleeping area and ensure the fabric is drawn safely inward and not trapped.
The awning must never be left deployed while unattended. Damage from wind, incorrect use or failure to secure equipment may be charged.
Only the equipment listed on the handover record is included. You must return all items clean, complete and in substantially the same condition, allowing for fair wear and tear.
When Daisy is not connected to a mains electric hookup, only the available 12V and USB systems can be used; the 230V sockets require a suitable mains hookup.
15. Fuel, water, waste and cleaning
Daisy uses diesel. You must return her with a full tank. If the tank is not full, we may charge the replacement fuel at a reasonable local rate plus a £15 refuelling fee.
You are responsible for using the correct fuel. Misfuelling and resulting recovery, draining, repair and loss-of-use costs are not normally covered by the hire insurance and may be charged to you.
Fresh-water and waste systems must be used hygienically and only for their intended purpose. Waste water and toilet waste, if applicable, must be emptied lawfully at an authorised facility.
Return the interior reasonably clean and tidy, with rubbish and personal belongings removed and dishes and equipment cleaned. Do not use abrasive products or automated car washes.
Ordinary post-hire cleaning is included. We may charge the reasonable cost of exceptional cleaning caused by excessive mud, stains, food, bodily fluids, smoke, pets, infestation, blocked systems or other misuse.
16. Tyres, wheels, glass and keys
Check tyres and warning lights during the hire and stop safely if a defect is suspected. Punctures and damage to tyres, wheels, mirrors, windscreen or glass caused during the hire may be your responsibility where not covered by insurance, except where caused by an inherent fault or fair wear and tear.
Do not drive on a flat or unsafe tyre. Contact us and the breakdown provider for instructions. Lost, stolen, locked-in or damaged keys and the resulting replacement, recovery or security costs may be charged to you.
17. Breakdown, faults and repairs
If Daisy breaks down or develops a fault, stop in a safe place, protect passengers and other road users, and contact the breakdown provider and us as soon as possible. Follow reasonable instructions and do not continue driving if a warning, damage or condition makes that unsafe.
You must not authorise repairs or spend more than £50 without our approval, except where urgent action is reasonably necessary to prevent injury or further damage and you cannot reach us. Keep itemised receipts and any replaced parts. We will reimburse reasonable authorised repair costs not caused by your breach, negligence or misuse.
We are not responsible for campsite, travel, accommodation or other consequential costs caused by a breakdown except where required by law or expressly covered by an agreed breakdown or insurance service. We will, however, act reasonably to help restore the hire or arrange a fair alternative remedy.
18. Accidents, damage, theft and vandalism
After any accident, damage, theft, attempted theft or vandalism you must:
make the scene safe, call the emergency services where appropriate and not admit liability or promise payment;
obtain the names, addresses, contact details, registration numbers and insurance details of everyone involved, together with witness details;
take photographs of the scene, vehicles, road layout and damage where it is safe to do so;
notify us and the insurer or assistance provider immediately, and notify the police where legally required or where there is theft, vandalism, injury or suspected criminal conduct;
complete and return every accident or insurance report promptly and cooperate fully with any investigation or claim; and
keep Daisy secure and take reasonable steps to prevent further loss.
Failure to report or cooperate may prejudice insurance and make you liable for losses that would otherwise have been covered. You must not arrange private settlement of a third-party claim without approval.
19. Parking, tolls, fines and road charges
You are responsible for all parking charges, tolls, ferries, congestion charges, low-emission or clean-air charges, traffic penalties and similar liabilities arising from your possession or use of Daisy. You must pay them promptly and provide evidence if requested.
Where a notice is sent to us, we may give the issuing authority your details and charge the amount we are required to pay plus a reasonable administration fee reflecting the work involved. Paying our administration fee does not remove your liability to the issuing authority. We will not charge you for a notice caused by our act or by use outside your hire period.
20. Personal belongings and vehicles left with us
Personal belongings left in Daisy are at your risk. We are not responsible for loss, theft or damage unless caused by our negligence or where liability cannot lawfully be excluded. Any property found will be kept for a reasonable period and may be returned at your cost.
If we allow you to leave a vehicle or other property at the collection location, it remains at your risk unless we expressly agree a secure-storage arrangement. Remove valuables and make sure you have appropriate insurance.
21. Damage, misuse and other losses
Subject to the insurance policy, consumer law and the duty to mitigate loss, you are responsible for reasonable losses arising from your breach, negligence, deliberate act or misuse by you or a member of your party. This may include:
the applicable insurance excess and uninsured repair or replacement costs;
recovery, repatriation, storage, specialist cleaning, locksmith and delivery costs;
loss of hire income for the reasonable period Daisy is unavailable for repair, where the loss is evidenced and was caused by the breach or damage;
diminution in value where reasonably established and not already included in repair or insurer settlement;
missing equipment and the reasonable cost of dealing with fines, tolls or claims; and
legal or professional costs reasonably incurred in enforcing the agreement, where recoverable by law.
We will take reasonable steps to keep losses to a minimum and will not recover the same loss twice. You are not responsible for fair wear and tear, an inherent mechanical defect, or loss caused by our breach or negligence.
22. Cancellation by you
You may cancel by giving us clear written notice. The cancellation date is the date we receive the notice. The following charges apply:
Within 48 hours after booking: a full refund, provided collection is more than 42 days away.
More than 42 days before collection: the 25% booking deposit is retained and any amount paid above it is refunded.
From 42 days to 14 days before collection: 50% of the total hire charge is payable, with the booking deposit counting towards that amount.
Less than 14 days before collection, or if you do not collect: 100% of the total hire charge is payable.
If we obtain a replacement booking for any of your cancelled dates, we will refund the hire charge recovered for those dates, less a £50 cancellation and administration fee. Any refund will be made after the replacement hire has been completed and paid for. We will not refund more than you paid.
We recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation, curtailment, illness and other unforeseen events. These cancellation terms do not affect any statutory right to a refund where we are in breach or where the law provides otherwise.
23. Changes requested by you
You may request one change of dates more than 42 days before collection. A change is subject to availability, the requested hire still meeting our minimum stay, insurer approval and payment of any price difference. If the new hire costs more, you must pay the difference; if it costs less, we will refund the difference.
The replacement dates must be agreed in writing. A later cancellation will be assessed by reference to the original collection date if that produces the higher cancellation charge, to prevent a date change being used to avoid the cancellation policy. Other requested changes, including drivers, destination, pets or extras, are subject to approval and may affect the price.
24. Cancellation, refusal or early termination by us
We may refuse to release Daisy or terminate the hire if a payment has not been made, a driver is not approved, required documents are missing or inaccurate, we reasonably believe the vehicle or a person is at risk, or there is a serious or repeated breach of the agreement. Where the issue is your responsibility, no refund will be due for lost hire time and you may be responsible for reasonable recovery costs.
If Daisy becomes unavailable before collection because of breakdown, accident, theft, safety concerns or another event outside our reasonable control, we will tell you promptly and offer, where reasonably possible, a suitable alternative date or vehicle. If no acceptable alternative is available, we will refund the amounts paid for the unavailable hire. We will not be liable for indirect or consequential losses except where the law requires otherwise.
If a serious fault not caused by you ends the hire early, we will provide an appropriate refund for the lost hire time or another remedy required by consumer law, taking account of any use already received.
25. Our responsibilities and limits of liability
We will use reasonable care and skill in providing the hire, supply Daisy in a roadworthy condition at collection and provide the services described in the agreement. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of rights that cannot legally be limited, or any other liability that the law does not permit us to exclude.
Subject to the previous paragraph, we are not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when the agreement was made, business loss arising from a private leisure booking, or loss caused by your breach, failure to follow instructions or failure to take reasonable precautions.
26. Personal data and privacy
We use personal, identity, licence, booking, payment and incident information to administer the booking, verify drivers, arrange insurance and assistance, protect the vehicle, prevent fraud, handle claims and meet legal obligations. Where necessary we may share information with insurers, brokers, breakdown providers, payment providers, booking platforms, professional advisers, law-enforcement bodies and public authorities.
We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for these purposes or required by law and take reasonable steps to keep it secure. You may contact us using the details in the booking confirmation to ask about your personal information. Any separate privacy notice published on our website also applies.
27. Complaints, general terms and governing law
If you experience a problem during the hire, contact us as soon as possible using the details in the booking confirmation so that we have a fair opportunity to help. If you remain dissatisfied, send us a written complaint with relevant evidence and we will aim to respond promptly and reasonably.
If any provision of this agreement is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver of that right. You may not transfer the booking without our written agreement. No person other than you, an approved driver where relevant, and us has a right to enforce the agreement.
The agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, although if you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom you may also have the right to bring proceedings in your home courts. Mandatory consumer protections continue to apply.
The version of these terms accepted when your booking is confirmed applies to that booking. We may update the website terms for future bookings.
Acceptance
By paying for or confirming the booking, signing the rental agreement or taking possession of Daisy, you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms and Conditions, the booking confirmation and the vehicle handover record.
